Itinerary

Day 1: Hoi An – Dong Phu - My Son - Kham Duc

Hoi An Ancient Town, with its breathtaking beauty, is worth being the perfect starting point for any tour exploring Central Vietnam. And we bet that right from the first destination can arouse your interest already. My Son Sanctuary is what we are talking about.

To reach the site, we need to move about fifty kilometers to the southwest, including a mountain road. My Son Sanctuary is not only a gorgeous structure complex but a place where the core values of the Cham kingdom are kept intact. The sanctuary consists of over seventy structures reflexing the tradition and culture of the ancient Cham people. From the 7th to the 13th century, My Son Sanctuary was the sacrificial place and tomb of the royal family in Champa. You will be undoubtedly amazed at the magnificent architecture, as well as the unsolved mysteries about the temples.

After meandering around My Son Sanctuary, relaxing in a hot spring seems to be a good idea. Then why don’t we visit Tay Vien Hot Spring, which is only six kilometers to the west? The ideal mineral content and temperature will surely help improve your health and mood.

Let’s say goodbye to Tay Vien and head for Dong Phu Town. We can assure you that you won’t regret riding about 40 kilometers to get to this lovely town. We are here to enjoy the most famous delicacy of the area – the Cassava Pho. After all, food is always the highlight of any trip, isn’t it? For the last of the day, we will stop in Kham Duc town. This small town offers mind-blowing landscapes and many exciting stories related to the history of Vietnam.

Day 2: Kham Duc – Kon Tum

We need you to have a big breakfast because we are going to ride pretty long today. Kon Tum is our destination on the second day of the trip. One hundred ninety kilometers on the legendary Ho Chi Minh Trail is not going to be easy but undoubtedly exciting. Such rough off-road tracks can give us what we seek – a sense of adventure. Furthermore, the gorgeous landscapes along the way are a great source of motivation for us.

And here we are in Kon Tum – the pride of the Central Highlands. So let’s start with the 100-year-old wooden church that has captured so many travelers’ hearts. Kon Tum Church was built entirely from wood from 1913 to 1918 by French priests. Both the exterior and interior of the building bring an irresistible attractiveness. An interesting fact is that the architecture of the church is the result of the Roman style inspired by the traditional stilt houses of the Ba Na ethnic group. This is also where many important religious events are organized.

Another wonder of Kon Tum is Mang Den’s pristine forest. Mang Den impresses tourists with verdant pine trees, silver waterfalls, and a diversity of flora and fauna. We can also visit Yaly– one of the largest hydroelectric structures in Vietnam. It’s so fantastic to witness such a great artificial masterpiece in the majestic landscape of the Central Highlands. Dak Glei Prison or Dak To hot spring is worth visiting as well.

Day 3: Kon Tum – Buon Ma Thuot

The destination on the third day of the trip is Buon Ma Thuot, which requires us to ride 272 kilometers in total. On the way, we will also visit Pleiku – a city with a myriad of captivating attractions. First and foremost, we should go to witness the beauty of “the eye of Pleiku” – Bien Ho. T’nung Lake, also known as Bien Ho, is a sizeable emerald-green lake in the Bien Ho – Chu Dang Ya Forest Ecological Tourism Area. A boat trip on the lake will bring you a peaceful moment and help relieve stress.

People in Pleiku are always eager to show you the Dai Doan Ket Stadium with the biggest bronze Ho Chi Minh statue in the world. And, of course, we shall not miss Ham Rong Mountain. This is actually an extinct volcano, and it was used as a military base of the US army. This site is perfect for taking excellent photos and riding off-road.

After exploring the complete beauty of Pleiku, we will proceed to Buon Ma Thuot – the ancient land, which is more than 4000 years old. We will together explore the Elephant Rocks by going on Highway 27 for about forty kilometers. The Elephant Rocks are the biggest whole rocks in Vietnam. From the top of the rocks, you can even see the Chu Yang Sin range and Yang Reh Lake. We will stay overnight in the city after having dinner.

Day 4: Buon Ma Thuot – Lak Lake - Da Lat

After breakfast, we will continue to go to Lak Lake – a well-known spot in Dak Lak. To get there, we will follow Highway 27 and ride only fifty-five kilometers. The way to Lak Lake requires us to overcome some winding passes.

Have you ever tried riding an elephant before? Here you have a chance to make friends with lovely elephants and ask them for a lift to the surrounding villages. Another activity you will definitely find exciting is exploring the lake on a dugout canoe. Gong culture can also make you curious about this area. After that, we will mount on our motorbikes and head to Dalat City – the city of thousands of flowers. Highway 27 and Lien Khuong road will lead us to the Dalat. The enchanting landscapes along the Prenn pass will give us more power to conquer the long way awaiting.

Day 5: Da Lat sightseeing

At last, we are here in Dalat – one of the most romantic cities in the S-shaped country. We can’t point out what has made the allure of Dalat – the French architecture, the incredible nature, the distinctive food, or the hospitable people. Some people say love this city because of the diversity. That may not be enough, but it can’t be wrong. In Dalat, you can behold a variety of sceneries.

In the morning, we can go for a walk around Xuan Huong Lake and try some games there. Then we will witness the exquisite flower gardens, which are only two kilometers from the city center. After that, we should come to see how unique the Dalat Cathedral is.

That is just only about the attractions to visit, not to mention the mouthwatering food in Dalat. But there is an experience that we don’t want you to miss. That is sipping a cup of hot coffee or tea while watching the whole panorama of Dalat from above. In Vietnam, we call it a golden experience.

Day 6: Da Lat – Nha Trang

Another day is another destination. And today, we will leave Dalat for Nha Trang. Yes, we will basically move from a mountainous area to the coastal one. The road will be pretty easy, and it’s just forty kilometers long. Nha Trang is undeniably one of the most popular tourist destinations not only in Vietnam but also in the Indochina Peninsula. The crystal clear water, long white sand beaches, and attractive ancient Cham construction conspire to create an irresistible allure for the site.

Dozens of options are available for us today. We can enjoy the sunshine on the beaches while drinking some fresh coconut and then immerse ourselves in the cool water. Adventurous travelers would love to explore the nearby islands by kayaking. Another great choice is visiting the Oceanographic Institute, where we can see hundreds of sea creatures, including rare ones.

It will be a pity if we don’t spend time visiting Po Nagar (also known as Thap Ba) – probably the most well-known Cham temple in the area. The temple is located on a hill two kilometers to the North of Nha Trang city. This is where people worship the Ponagar Goddess. The layout, architecture, and interior of the temple are outstanding. We can see many images in the Cham beliefs (Tenexa God, mascots, activities of the ancient community, etc.). At night, we will relax in a hotel in Nha Trang to regain energy and be ready for the next day.

Day 7: Nha Trang – Quy Nhon

The next destination on the seventh day of the trip is Quy Nhon, which means we need to ride for 215 kilometers. Quy Nhon is the cultural, economic, and political center of Binh Dinh province. A wide range of landscapes is a huge advantage of this land. There are so many gorgeous beaches here such as Quy Nhon, Trung, Quy Hoa, Xep, Dai, Bang, Ky Co, and Rang beaches. However, we had a good time swimming and sunbathing in Nha Trang, so why don’t we do something else?

We are sure that some of you find the religion in Vietnam quite interesting. Therefore Cham Twin Temple is perfect for visiting first. This impressive temple dates back to the 13th century. Ghenh Rang Church, Ngoc Hoa Monastery, Quy Nhon Church, or Long Khanh and Son Long Pagodas are also great to see.

Cu Lao Xanh is an island with so many extraordinary sceneries that we cannot skip it. Here stands an imposing lighthouse, which is an awesome attraction as well.

If you are keen on exploring the great nature in Quy Nhon, you need to take a closer look at the following sites: Eo Gio, Ghenh Rang – Tien Sa tourist area, and Xuan Van Mountain.

Wherever you go, make sure that you don’t miss tasty food like Banh Xeo Tom, Bun Cha Ca, or dishes with jellyfish. Traveling to Quy Nhon without trying those delicacies is a total mistake.

Day 8: Quy Nhon – Hoi An

On the last day of the journey, we will bid farewell to Quy Nhon and return to Hoi An on the 1A route. The 200-kilometer road back to Hoi An won’t be less exciting as we will meet the outstanding beauty of My Khe Beach in Da Nang. The sea here is clear and tranquil all year round, which is really suitable for cruising and diving. Sunday Herald Sun – an Australian journal – has rated My Khe as one of the ten best Asian beaches.

Also, we have a precious opportunity to take some unique photos of the salt field of Sa Huynh. It is like you are standing right on a giant mirror, reflexing the blue sky. We can find out how sea salt is made as well – such an excellent way to make our trip more meaningful, right? Then we will have lunch in Tam Ky city of Quang Nam province before coming back to Hoi An. Our 8-day Central motorbike tour from Hoi An then ends up with happy memories and amazing experiences.
