Itinerary

Day 1: Hanoi - Sapa

On the first day of our tour, the whole crew will gather at the office of BM Travel Adventure. Then, we will depart the city to head up to the Northern. The route is estimated at nearly 330 kilometers in length so you should get well prepared and ready for 9 hours long. On the way, you will see more and more vast green terraces and endless mountain slopes appearing in front of your eyes. We will arrive at Sapa (Lao Cai) at noon when everybody is quite exhausted. Enjoy lunch at a nearby restaurant to regain energy.

Take a short break before moving on 18 km to the North towards the majestic Hoang Lien Son mountain range. Next, you will continue your ride on 50 kilometers of the pass road to reach Heaven’s Gate in Sapa. You will be surprised by the picturesque scenery here at about 2,000 m above sea level. That’s a miraculous mix of spacious valleys, numerous mountains, and multiple terraced fields dotted below.

Ham Rong Peak with the dragon’s head-like shape will be the next destination on this day. Climbing on the top of the peak of 1,800 m high, your eyes will be feasted with countless colorful flower gardens around the mountain. There are a lot of precious flower species here from hydrangea to orchids, peonies, and sakura that will make you not want to leave. At the foot of Ham Rong peak, there is an ancient Stone Church constructed in 1895 that will also be a great destination.

Summary:

  • Distance: 330 km
  • Accommodation: Hotel in Sapa
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 2: Sapa - Than Uyen

After an overnight stay at a local hotel in Sapa, we will follow Highway 32 to head westward to the peaceful Than Uyen district, a land of peace in Lai Chau. The route is not too long with the 140-km stretch which takes roughly 4 hours to ride on. Keep riding until you reach Than Uyen town where you and your fellow driver will enjoy lunch. In the afternoon, we will come to Khau Co Hill Monument which was built to mark the fierce battle of Muong Khoa and Muong Lay people against French colonialists in 1886. From the monument, you have a panoramic view of the dreamy Muong Than Field which is always of the top 3 largest fields in Northwest Vietnam.

One of the most popular hotspots that you must visit here is Na Khoang village in Muong Kim. This guerilla base, in the past, was built to prevent attack from the French. You can walk around this place first, and then, visit Che Bo Cave Complex with a changeable climate and a series of stunning stalagmites stalactites. Coming here in the summer, you will feel comfortable in the cool and fresh climate. Meanwhile, it is warm and cozy in winter. Afterward, go to Ta Gia to admire the Ta Gia Complex with a set of splendid mountains, and magnificent caves as a water painting lazed through by the Nam Mu River.

Day 3: Sapa Motorbike Tour Than Uyen – Mu Cang Chai

Another long day through 372 km to famous destinations in Northwest Vietnam is waiting for you to explore. You will leave Than Uyen in the early morning after breakfast to move on Highway 32 as the previous day to visit Mu Cang Chai first. This stretch will take up to 1 hour through 62 kilometers and the route is not easy to ride in at all. You will ride on the most dangerous and longest pass road, Khau Pha Pass, so be careful. With the meaning of a sky-high horn, Khau Pha is always covered by a sea of fog and clouds. From a far distance, all you can see is the peak only. The pass road, with multiple bends, weak soil foundation, and less maintenance, is absolutely difficult to cross for weak minds. However, its breathtaking views of lush pristine forests and golden rice paddies from the top of the pass can not be rivaled.

Riding down to Tu Le Valley, you can stop by and take photos of glorious golden rice paddies and enjoy mouth-watering sticky rice with a completely different taste. You will keep riding along the series of golden fields until you reach Cao Pa commune. Then, we will go to nearby Lim Mong village for lunch. Take a rest before leaving Mu Cang Chai, the home of the most stunning rice terraces, to Son La province. The ride to reach Phu Yen will be quite long, and you will stay at a hotel upon arrival.

Day 4: Phu Yen – Hanoi

It is the last day of our journey already. The best way to enjoy the precious moments here is to wake up in the early morning and sightsee the amazing sunrise surrounded by nature in Phu Yen. Before our exploration of Highway 37, complete breakfast first. You will ride on the historical Lung Lo pass at the Son La-Yen Bai border. This pass is one of the most important historical witnesses of the fateful Dien Bien Phu battle. Despite the repeated destruction and reparation, the Pass, as a relic of the mighty war 60 years ago, still carried its perfect duty as a supply line which has even surprised the French. Coming here, you will surely understand more about Vietnamese history.

Next, the whole crew will visit an ancient Vo Nguyen Giap forest which was bravely named after the Vietnamese General Giap. Ask the friendly forest keeper to rest in the troops of General Giap in that forest if you feel tired after the long travel. Alternatively, you can ask him to tell you tales about the Vietnamese hero. Next, we will go straight to Quang Huy commune to climb up atop the mountains there for some exciting cloud hunting. Or else, you can choose to stop by a lake along the Black River. After enjoying delicious lunch here with many local dishes, then, it’s time to say goodbye to the locals to backtrack to city life. To avoid terrible traffic jams in rush hour, the best choice for you is to depart Phu Yen soon.

We will officially close up the 4-day Sapa motorbike tour with an amazing off-road experience on the Northern Loop trail at the office of BM Travel Adventure. We are sure that you do have great moments together with awesome fellow drivers.
