Itinerary

DAY 1: ARRIVAL – HANOI

After the plane landed at the airport, we will pick you all up and then go straight ahead to the hotel to do the check-in. The whole crew will meet up at the day’s end at the booked hotel or come to a nearby coffee shop for having a detailed dialogue that helps provide all about the journey before it officially starts the next day.

Arrival in Hanoi

DAY 2: HANOI MOTORCYCLE TOUR TO VU LINH VILLAGE (THAC BA LAKE, YEN BAI)

ow, the cross-border motorbike tour officially begins. The whole team will enjoy a ride on rugged dike roads that follow the Red River, then go all the way to the famous Thac Ba lake. On the road, you will sightsee beautiful countryside scenes with endless glorious rice terraces and lush green tea plantation.

Thanks to the hydroelectricity dam’s construction in the 1970s, Thac Ba Lake was also formed and became one of the largest lakes in Vietnam. Keep riding until we reach Dao village in Vu Linh. Here, we will enjoy an amazing relaxing overnight stay in a homestay of the hospitable Dao.

The 180-km distance will make you feel tired but your eyes will surely be rewarded with breathtaking views. Enjoy a relaxing dinner prepared by the friendly hosts who are great drinkers and hold daily parties. The homestay in Vu Linh will be great for the night.

Hanoi to Vu Linh

DAY 3: THAC BA MOTORBIKE TOUR TO PHU YEN (SON LA)

Let’s spend the last farewell to the great Dzao hosts before you continue entering a 180-km route from Thac Ba to Phu Yen (Son La). In the morning, saying goodbye to the friendly Dzao people, we keep on motorcycling on a sealed road crossing through hillsides covered by popular tea planting areas to finally reach Ba Khe T-junction.

At the junction, we will stop by for a short rest before we turn into National Road 32 leading to renowned Lung Lo pass. With a total length of 15 kilometers, the pass was an important road for the Vietnamese people to secretly transport goods, food, and weapons during the historical Dien Bien Phu campaign in 1954.

The pass endured severe bombs by the strong French force with serious damages. Then, the Lung Lo pass was officially recognized as a national heritage by the Vietnamese ministry.

Thac Ba to Phu Yen

DAY 4: PHU YEN MOTORBIKE TOUR TO MAI CHAU VALLEY

Today, we will follow Road 43 to reach Da river while exploring the most stunning sights in North Vietnam. Upon arrival in Van Yen ferry, the whole crew will cross by the famous reservoir of the river. After a short break, we’ll keep riding on the weaving dreamy roads all over the lake leading to Mai Chau.

Along the way, you will cross numerous local villages where the local people are catching multiple fishes on two sides of the lake or working on immense hillsides. Before arriving at Mai Chau, the whole team will enjoy lunch en-route at a local restaurant.

After reaching Mai Chau, you will have a short walking tour around the local village to know more about the local life. The countryside life starts early right after the sunrise so there are a lot of activities for you to join.

Seeing how Thai women who are masterful weavers making their unique traditional clothing for sale in the center of the village. Women weaving their masterpieces on colorful looms inside or under their own houses is such a water painting picture of the countryside life of the ethnic minority. Actually, you should buy a unique knife, crossbow, or traditional-style clothing as souvenirs of this memorable trip.

Phu Yen to Mai Chau

DAY 5: MAI CHAU MOTORBIKE TOUR TO PU LUONG NATURE RESERVE – NA MEO BORDER GATE

Having breakfast in the morning before we depart from Mai Chau to ride all the way on a 70-km distance to Pu Luong nature reserve in Ba Thuoc and Quan Hoa districts (Thanh Hoa). Bordered by Tan Lac, Lac Son, and Mai Chau of Hoa Binh, Pu Luong Nature Reserve is worth your visit.

The beautiful nature reserve is located right along two mountain ridges on a parallel running from the North-western region to the South-eastern region divided by the central valley. Here, you can see immense agricultural land and numerous human settlements. We will enjoy lunch en-route in Pu Luong before reaching the Na Meo border gate where we will stay overnight in a guesthouse there.

Mai Chau - Pu Luong

DAY 6: NAMEO BORDER GATE – SAM NEUA MOTORBIKE TOUR TO VIENG XAI – XIENG KHOANG (B/L/-) 250 KM

Today, we will officially leave Vietnam to start the day tour in Laos. At the border gate, the whole immigration procedures needed with customs before migrating into Laos will be completed by our tour guide. After entering Laos territory, the whole crew will be welcomed by a Laos guide who will guide you for a ride to Vieng Xai later. In mid-morning, you will visit Suan Hin Standing Stones before enjoying lunch in Nam Neun.

After lunch, you will keep riding on an elevation road. At the road’s base, take a short break at the famous Tam Piew Cave for a panoramic view and learn more about the cave’s history. Then, we will turn into a paved road leading to Phonsavan in the late afternoon.

Overnight here in Phonsavan and enjoy dinner before taking a relaxing night after a long touring day on the back of your motorbike.

SAM NEUA MOTORBIKE TOUR

DAY 7: XIENG KHOUANG MOTORBIKE TOUR TO PAKSAN (B,L,D) – 270 KM

The day will start with an interesting ride to Site 1 inside the mysterious Plain of Jars, which takes us a 10-minute ride out of town. Continue the motorbike tour to Site 2 and 3 after that. Then, we will ride around to visit Old Xieng Khouang to enjoy lunch before returning via Phonsavan.

Looping around the Northern region via the dirt road loop, the whole crew will visit multiple remote villages. What makes this area special is that it was damaged by heavy bombs during the 1960s to 1970s with bomb craters scattered on the road.

The next destination is Paksan, the capital of Bolikhamxay. Sitting at the junction of the Mekong and Nam San rivers, Paksan is almost opposite a small-sized town of Bueng Kan. Complete the check-in in your guesthouse before having dinner.

XIENG KHOUANG MOTORBIKE TOUR TO PAKSAN

DAY 8: PAKSAN MOTORBIKE TOUR TO LAK SAO (B,L,D) – 184 KM

The 8th day of the cross-border motorbike tour will be full of fun and surprises. The destination today is Lak Sao, a dreamy town under magnificent Phou Pha Phi Hong limestone mountain. In the middle of vast forests, Lak Sao is such a sleeping beauty in the forest.

On the way, the whole crew will admire the stunning sceneries through spectacular ridges, dramatic limestone mountains, and even endless peaceful streams and rivers. Relax and regain energy at the hot spring next to Ban Nape which is 18 km far away from Lak Sao. Steamy water in the natural pool will make you feel extremely comfortable before you continue riding for the check-in in the guesthouse.

PAKSAN MOTORBIKE TOUR TO LAK SAO

DAY 9: LAK SAO – KONG LOR – THAKHEK (B,L) – 285 KM

Kong Lor Cave, with 7.5 kilometers in length, will be an amazing place to visit today. The special thing is that you will see a huge river running through the middle part of the stunning cave. Take a fun boat trip to discover the cave, and continue the tour to Thakhek afterward.

Located across the Mekong river, Thakhek is deemed as the sleepy capital of Khamman from the small town in Nakhon Phanom. Though Thakhek is quieter than other exciting towns in Laos, this place is still an interesting destination with tourists as the friendliest and biggest town in the Khammam province.

The evening will be so amazing since you can enjoy the dinner and time on your own after doing the check-in. Have a good night at the local hotel here.

LAK SAO – KONG LOR – THAKHEK

DAY 10: THAKHEK MOTORBIKE TOUR TO SAVANNAKHET (B,L) – 150 KM

Explore the best of the town before riding to Savannakhet today. Highlights of the trip today include Tham Xang cave, which is the very first one you will reach right after you leave Tha Khaek for a mind-blowing exploration in this area.

Here, you will see countless Buddha statues while enjoying an impressive panoramic view of the surrounding areas of Buddha cave, Tham Pha Fa. This place is considered as a sacred site for national Buddhists with full of hundred-year-old Buddha images.

Absolutely, there are multiple rural sceneries to explore on this stretch that will leave a strong impression and excitement after the trip. Straight roads are also in good condition and allow you to enjoy easy and fast riding. Outside Thakhek at Ban Phon-Gnia Noy, you will visit the bustling markets here as an interesting stop-by where you can find cheap and delicious bananas for sale.

Upon arrival at Savannakhet, you will check-in the hotel. Then, enjoy the free evening for the town exploration with your own route and plans. Feel free to enjoy the delicious dinner with whatever you want. Remember to take a full sleep to regain energy after a long day trip.

THAKHEK MOTORBIKE TOUR TO SAVANNAKHET

DAY 11: SAVANNAKHET MOTORBIKE TOUR TO PAKSE (B,L) – 240 KM

Picturesque views will be the best part of today’s journey. Going through bridges crossing peaceful rivers will add excitement to your route to Pakse. Climbing up the top of the mountain to the sacred Golden Buddha Temple, you will dive into the panoramic view offered over the Pakse town and Mekong River.

In the evening, you will enjoy dinner and leisure time on your own. Come back to the hotel to stay overnight.

 SAVANNAKHET MOTORBIKE TOUR TO PAKSE

DAY 12: PAKSE MOTORBIKE TOUR TO WAT PHOU – 4000 ISLAND (B,L) – 140 KM

The ride towards Si Phan Don, the home to over 4000 Islands in all shapes and sizes today is quite easy. Head South, you will stop by Wat Phou, an ancient ruined temple complex of the Khmer Hinduism where you can admire stunning scenes over the Mekong River and the surrounding areas.

Wat Phou is always listed in the top oldest and most important Lao archaeological sites. This Khmer architecture is also made of popular materials including laterite, bricks, and sandstone.

Since the mid 13th century, Wat Phu has become the symbol of Buddhist religious practice in Laos.  So, tourists who are keen on Lao archeology and history will surely love this place.

Next, you will keep riding to Don Khong, the largest island in Si Phan Don. Enjoy lunch here, then, join a boat tour around the island. Along the Mekong river, you will reach Liphi waterfall where you can sightsee top powerful falls dropping down at exotic angles.

The collection of islands will make you feel peaceful in the midst of stunning natural beauty. Feel free to take impressive photos until the late afternoon. Then, the whole crew will come back to the hotel and free at leisure for the rest of the day.

DAY 13: 4000 ISLAND MOTORBIKE TOUR VIA DONG KRALOR TO KRATIE (B/-/D)

The road to the Cambodia border that we will ride on today is quite easy and fast with light traffic. Say goodbye to the trip to Laos and go ahead to Dong Kralor border, where you will be welcomed by a new guide.

Continue going until you reach Kratie. We will stop en-route at Kampi, where you can see the rare freshwater dolphin in the Mekong river here. Check-in first and then, be free at your own leisure in Kratie to explore its colonial town. The night in Kratie will be awesome too.

4000 ISLAND MOTORBIKE TOUR VIA DONG KRALOR TO KRATIE

DAY 14: KRATIE MOTORBIKE TOUR TO KAMPONG CHAM (B/L/D)

Today, we will ride through peaceful villages on the riverside along the famous Mekong river. We will stop en-route in Chhlong, the town since the French colonial period which still remains distinctive French architecture.

After arriving in Kampong Cham, we will do the check-in first before crossing the longest bridge of the Cambodian towards Koh Pen. This special bridge here is made of light woods and bamboo. Return to Kampong Cham at the end of the day for relaxation.

DAY 15: KAMPONG CHAM MOTORCYCLE TOUR TO PHNOM PENH (B/L/-)

Jumping on the Road 7, you will enter the route from Kampong Cham to the capital city, Phnom Penh. On the road, you will stop by Phnom Pros and Wat Nokor to grasp some more interesting things about modern and ancient Buddhism in this country.

Right after setting foot in Phnom Penh, go to do the check-in at the hotel. Afterward, the whole team will visit the Royal Palace, which is deemed as the home to His Majesty, King Norodom Sihamoni. Silver Pagoda will be the next stopping place for the whole team.

KAMPONG CHAM MOTORCYCLE TOUR TO PHNOM PENH

DAY 16: PHNOM PENH MOTORCYCLE TOUR VIA SKUN TO KAMPONG THOM (B/L/D)

Today, the distance will be 220 km, so you need to get well prepared before the trip starts in the morning. After hearing safety briefing and introduction from the tour guide, we will jump on the bikes to ride along the Mekong River via a village path toward Skun, the most well-known town of the tasty deep-fried tarantula, a unique delicacy of this area.

Riding along the towns leading to Kampong Thom, we will pass tons of huge local plantation areas including even rubber growing places. Back to Kampong Thom for a joyful night.

DAY 17: KAMPONG THOM MOTORBIKE TOUR VIA SAMBO PREY KUH TO SIEM REAP (B/L/D)

Get ready for a thrilling dirt bike ride today through 200 km from Kampong Thom to Siem Reap. The road will not be extremely challenging so don’t worry. Just feel relaxed while riding through tarmac and flat gravel roads.

In the morning, the whole team will leave Kampong Thom to reach Sambo Prei Kuh, the biggest complex of the pre-Angkorian period. Keeping riding towards Siem Reap, you will reach the hotel in the afternoon. Enjoy the facilities there before the next touring day to Angkor’s temples. Siem Reap will be the place that you spend the whole night at.

DAY 18: SIEM REAP – ANGKOR WAT – TA PROHM – ANGKOR THOM (B/L/D)

Wake up early in the morning so that you can join the whole crew to visit Angkor Wat, the greatest masterpiece of unique Khmer architecture during sunrise. Deemed as the mother of temples, Angkor Wat is the home to extraordinary carvings on bas-reliefs. The historical relics are known as not only the symbol and pride of the Khmer but also the World’s Largest Religious Monument.

In 1992, Angkor Wat was listed as World’s Heritage by UNESCO, so we are sure that you will have an interesting experience here. Continue the tour until midday, then, you and your fellow riders will backtrack to the hotel.

Next, make a visit to picturesque Ta Prohm in the midst of a vast jungle. The temple is covered by tentacle-like roots of towering trees. This site is measured several centuries passing instead of by days. You will continue the exploration of Angkor Thom to discover its mysterious city.

The next terminus of the journey today is Bayon where you will visit a 54-tower temple with endless smiling faces carved on the sight. Next, the whole crew will go around the complex to its surroundings such as Elephant Terraces, Baphuon, Royal Palace, and Leper King Terrace. Back to Siem Reap and stay overnight there.

DAY 19: SIEM REAP – FREE(B/-/-)

Delicious breakfast will be prepared at the hotel. There will be no touring activities today, so you can feel free to enjoy anything at leisure around Siem Reap. Dinner and overnight will take place at your hotel.

DAY 20: SIEM REAP – DEPARTURE (B/-/-)

Enjoy breakfast at your hotel to get enough energy for the last day of the cross-border motorbike tour. Today is also the time for you to do anything for fun and excitement until the check-out time from your hotel. You will then transfer to the airport to enter the departure flight back to your hometown. Your tour will officially come to an end.

BOOKING CONDITIONS

  1. Deposits and Payment Policy
  • We require a deposit of 30% of the total upon confirmation of booking the tour. The remaining balance will be paid 45 days before departure. Your booking may be considered canceled if the full balance is not received by Vietnam Motorbike Tours Club by that time.
  • You can choose the payment method by money transfer or credit card payment with all bank transfer charges/ fees to be paid by you.
  • After receiving your payment, we will issue you the final confirmation of the detailed itinerary and services via e-mail.
  1. Cancellation and Refunds
  • Vietnam Motorbike Tours Club takes no responsibility for any flight delays or scheduled changes at any stage throughout the trip.
  • We have the discretion to change the itinerary or delay the tour due to weather, local conditions, politics, or various other reasons with our notification in advance.
  • During the tour, should you be found to break any of the rules without the prior exception from the tour leader, we have the discretion to cancel the tour with no refunds applied.
  • During the tour, should your bike have minor technical problems, our guide/mechanic will attempt to fix it as quickly as possible. In the event that the bike can not be fixed within the day, we will endeavor to substitute a bike of a similar type to ensure your trip is not interrupted.
  • Should you have to cancel the tour due to special reasons, you may transfer your booking to another person. However, you will be liable for your nominee paying their monies in full.
